Description: Flood hazard areas for the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) within Stark County, Ohio. These flood hazard areas are part of the National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL). Flood hazard areas in this layer were merged into single records for each class to improve web map performance and symbolization. Flood hazard areas are sometimes referred to as flood hazard zones or flood plains. They depict the floodway (areas that are frequently flood), as well as the 100 and 500-year flood plains. The FIRM is the basis for floodplain management, mitigation, and insurace activities for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Insurance applications include enforcement of the mandatory purchase requirement of the Flood Disaster Protection Act, which requires the purchase of flood insurance by the owners of properties within areas identified as having flood hazards. This layer was downloaded from https://msc.fema.gov/portal/advanceSearch in September, 2021. It was last updated and published on September14, 2018.

Description: A compilation of zoning districts from cities, villages, and townships within Stark County, Ohio. This layer was originally conceived as part of a general zoning map for 12 counties across Northeast Ohio. The project was headed by the Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium (NEOSCC), with the final map being produced by the Stark County Regional Planning Commission (SCRPC). SCRPC worked with Stark County's cities and villages to obtain zoning data they maintained and then completed the layer by digitizing zoning data for the county's townships with zoning resolutions (some of Stark County's townships and villages are not zoned). Once that project was completed in 2013, SCRPC continued to update zoning data for the townships. City and village data was appended to the layer when provided by those communities. This layer was revamped in 2022 to provide additional capabilities. A field for general zoning was added to show generalized zones to eliminate the need to symbolize by the hundreds of zones across the county. Information for what chapter/section was added, along with hyperlinks to those sections in the codified ordinances and zoning resolutions for communities with that information online.

Description: Special overlay zoning districts for cities, villages, and townships within Stark County, Ohio. The records in this layer were originally part of the Stark County Zoning Districts layer. This led to some confusion, as these overlay zones caused symbology issues with the layers they overlapped with. Instead of added a field to designate whether a district was an overlay, these special zones were extracted from that layer and this layer was created as a result. This layer only includes true overlay districts. These are instances in which a zone overlays another zone. Some communities have districts containing the word "overlay", but they are not true overlays if there is no overlap with another zone.
